Nearly 6" tall when closed, and a diameter of 3", this is a large caddy. This is also a very old one, shows age but is rare! The caddy is a late 1700s to earliest 1800s shagreen case (stingray belly leather) and while it's not in pristine condition, it's an historical rarity. Has its 18k gold monogram there mounted still in top center of the lid, and all 4 perfectly fitted flasks within (one stopper is replacement, 3 are original). This would have been such a prize in its day - certainly owned by a titled royal or dignitary of great wealth. The old shagreen cases are highly sought after, even in less than perfect condition. This period, that material - such an elegant item. Rare to find it with all the original bottles inside, too. The pushbutton and the monogram test at 18k gold.
Good condition for age and type. The old shagreen definitely showing age. I'd love it if it were pristine and that wonderful original green color. It's faded, has some flaws primarily to the top. The 18k gold pushbutton clasp is working well, the 18k gold monogram up top is beautiful. The internal 4 scent bottles remain in fine form but that one has a replacement stopper as you can see. Still, for the serious scent bottle or shagreen collector, such a rare treasure. Priced according to condition.
