Antique silk-on-silk embroidery, circa 1800–1825, depicting an elegantly dressed woman in a blue costume standing among flowering trees and spring flowers, finely worked in delicate multicolored silk threads with detailed shading and ornamental gold-toned stitching. The embroidery is presented in an attractive oval format, approximately 10 5/8" x 8 1/4", and appears to retain its original period gilded wood frame and decorative gold oval mat. The woman's face with hand painted detailing, just lovely! A charming and finely executed example of early nineteenth-century pictorial silk embroidery, with considerable decorative appeal and character.
Very good condition. There are a few small tears to the base silk panel, all visible in the images. The frame is in wonderful shape.
