This superb Georgian era writer's set in a nearly pristine fruitwood & brass traveler's etui or box with Dieppe style carved ivory wax seal, paper knife and implements with two silver plate topped inkwells and wonderful condition! Likely a piece found originally in the boutiques of the old Palais Royal, my long experience tells me it was and the style is distinct. The box with its relative simplicity in the Georgian style, likely fruitwood veneers with brass inlay, the diamond shaped darker wood escutcheon with working lock and old skeleton key. A wonderful set, beautifully preserved and ready for your museum!
Remarkable condition, 2 inkwells, a monogram sceau (wax seal) with solitary "C" monogram, scissors, scraper (eraser for ink - used by scraping the surface paper away) and more. Even what appears to be the original mirror remains inside the lid. The box is superb, really. You can see how nice a set it is still, some 200 years later. One tool, second from the front in the fittings, is missing the inner folding points but is intact otherwise. The inkwells have a cork inner, silver plated tops with old French hallmarks. This is a wonderful and early set. RARE to find complete and in such fine condition.
