The blade of the page cutter or envelope opener is acid engraved on both sides, figural and incredible work of art. The handles on each implement is .800/1000 pure silver with 18k gold layer, or 'vermeil'. As you can see, it is not s full complete set, is missing the pen and the wax seal that would have completed this elegant writer's desktop set, but what remains is superb and rich and fun to contemplate its first owner's use of it. The box is beautiful on its own, much finer than most of these, which were leather-clad card rather than fine hardwood. It was a spectacular set in its time. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good condition for age and type, allowing the loss of seal and pen, and tip of one instrument which was likely a small magnifying lens or an eraser blade (handle only remains). The 3 complete tools are paper cutter/letter opener, stiletto to punch holes in paper to sew chapters or multi-page documents together in string, a fine sharp quill knife. Complete, it would be over $1000, but as a remnant, you have room to search for a pen and seal to add to your desk set. Box is exquisite, has one tiny nick to one corner, pointed out on the photos.
