Grand Tour souvenir portrait miniature, fine quality as you can see from the referenced painting by Nattier, after which this tiny miniature has been painted. The artist who has painted the small copy has not signed his or her work, but it is really quite superb. A great talent, to have painted a little mimic in gouache on thin wafer, and gotten it so perfectly after the 18th century oil painting by famed artist, Jean Marc Nattier. Note the size of this little miniature, and that her face is this delicately beautiful in the space of only 3/8", chin to hairline. She is nicely framed in a gilded carved wood frame, and the original 19th century writing on back is in Italian. The painting was in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.  Perhaps a century later, a French mother and father have given the painting in 1960 to their own little daughter whose name is also Diana. Full measurements are noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent condition throughout, a splendid miniature painting to almost every detail of the original. A fine beveled and polished original 1800s cover glass remains completely undamaged, as does the painting, itself. Carved wood gilded frame shows a little wear and some loss of gilding here or there. Fabulous painting for an antique doll's house decor, or for any collector of miniature paintings, portraits.
