I've bought lots of these (both singles and pairs) over the years, and most of them we've sold again. I've got a few now that I'm going to use. My plan is to build them into cabinetry renovation in kitchen, and also to have a 4" depth box frame backing made for one that can be wall-mounted as a cabinet in bathroom, mirror back and lined with glass shelves, to use as as upscale medicine cabinet. Might recess the cabinet part into the wall instead. You'll surely come up with great decorator ideas of your own. But in fact, these hang on a wall beautifully just as the fine art and sculpture they are. Large antique Victorian era French hand carved 28.5" x 22.25" cabinet or furniture door panel PAIR, now fabulous wall hanging decorative plaques, each with a large, impressively detailed winged griffin or gryphon figure and wonderful visual & decorative appeal! Wouldn't these look lovely with custom made gilt wood frames, or simply hung as is really! We've offered many old Black Forest hunt themed wall plaques over the years, these more French in style. Both complete cabinet or furniture doors with the lock and escutcheons attached (well, part of the right door escutcheon is missing). Fabulous detail, wouldn't they look superb framed in a rich gilt gesso on wood and displayed. They'd also make great additions to a custom piece of furniture or cabinetry OR, simply hung & displayed as they are.
A wonderful large pair, don't miss them! Ready-to-hang or you might want to build into your cabinetry; use as a door for a wall cabinet for medicine chest use in a bathroom; or put in a frame to display as the work of art they truly are. These panels date to the 19th century, c. 1830-80s. As noted, part of the reticulated escutcheon is missing from the right door.. See pictures for all measurements.
