Rare antique French Napoleon era 1700s Dieppe hand carved 9 5/8" tall crucified Christ figure or sculpture, an exquisite and large piece with superb detail and altar style 20.5" free standing cross! This, one of the last of my own collection, is a find from decades ago, now being disbursed, subject to rules noted below. This one an older Christ figure, surely dating to the early to mid 1700s is all original but possibly re-carved hands which may have lost fingers long long ago (seems like clumsy carved fingers on what was just palm/hands originally). Jesus is depicted in a pre-expiration condition, Christ's eyes cast toward heaven with mouth open and no thorn crown. A magnificent piece, older than most and you can tell by the age or drying striations in the carved body. The altar style cross also a unique find, with carved iv accenting and bordering with a four-tiered base to hold it all aloft. Any of you who have been to the Napoleon III apartments in the Louvre or Notre Dame cathedral will have seen several figures of this type, what always surprises me is that you find them there on display in, often times, far worse condition than those that we offer. Missing limbs or digits is common, these from my collections of many decades do have a few flaws but all are definitely "museum quality".

Very good to excellent condition for age and type. There is one small segment of the pale colored trim missing from the right side of the base. As is noted in the images, the figure's arms are likely later restorations and lack the superb anatomical detail that the rest of the sculpture exhibits. Magnificent overall though, a breathtaking decorative and/or devotional piece dating to the 1700s. See pictures for all measurements.

We also recognize the vast cultural history we preserve with our care and reverence for these antique objects, and agree with CITES that objects over 100 years of age have nothing whatsoever to do with species depletion in our current world. We do hold a USDFW import/export license, as well.

Our offering exceeds the age limitation of "more than 100 years of age", and is well within the exemption for CITES regulation. If imported, met the CITES regulation. This item will be handled and shipped from our Utah business, and is not available for shipment internationally, nor within the USA to California, NY, Nevada, Hawaii, New Jersey, Oregon, Washington if it contains ivory, sorry.
