Still clearing my own collections, this is one of my favorites. So beautifully done, the lace of her collar or fichu and bonnet are just etherial, the velvet of her gown, soft and perfectly captured. A sidelong pose, she is seated with a book, glances over her shoulder at her artist and viewer. Unimaginable detail in a face which is only 5/8" from chin to hairline. These miniaturists created incredible works of art. This one has a monogram signature but I have not yet tried to identify artist. Note the fine detail - even though I've greatly enlarged the painting, you can hardly distinguish it from a full sized painting. Fur is soft and fluffy against the velvet, one sees the detail of her powdered hair and huge bonnet which dates her to the Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette era. A feel of a very fine Vigee LeBrun painting, this one. Full measurements are noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition. I opened this one to be certain the convex cover glass was super-clean, and really just to see the work of this artist without the shine of the curved glass. Stunning fashion, captured in incredible detail, the wafer is superb, and the frame and original convex cover glass have protected it perfectly. The very old card backing is hand painted, as well. I did not find further identification within.
