Johann Elias Ridinger (1698 Ulm, Germany - 1767 Augsburg, Germany). 1698 Artist: Johann Elias Ridinger (Ulm, Germany - 1767 Augsburg, Germany). Johann Elias Ridinger created a comprehensive body of baroque printing work with his circa 1,600 copperplate engravings and etchings. His principle theme was detailed depictions of animals and hunting scenes (so-called “Ridingersche Tier- und Jagdstücke”). Most of his pictures were published via the fine art publishing company he founded in Augsburg.

Offering: A pair of very large hand colored intaglio engravings, equestrian themes. The artist is very well listed. The prints are directly from the engraved copper plates, and I bought them many years ago in Paris. The frames are vintage, but the prints are exceptional and beg to be framed to the standard of the art. The frames will attend the prints, or for a less costly shipment, the prints can go alone. There is no glass in the large frames, a safety issue for the very old cotton rag prints. They have been stored in acid-free archival tissue, and are in excellent condition for age, type.

Very good condition, no tears, no holes. Early laid 100% cotton rag paper, some very slight ripples can be viewed. They need glass cover, good framing to display at finest. The copper plate on these is exceptionally large at 27.75" x 18.25" (view the edges on the print) with a paper that shows a good 2" border beyond the plate. They are fabulous in person. One print is slightly yellowed, you can see it in the images of them overlying one another.  Brilliant work! Superb artist. Rare!

NOTE: I'm an artist, MFA, printmaking - first and foremost and ahead of antiques. I taught drawing and design for a while, but left that for business (3 sons to raise, too low pay for University teaching), so I've always had this collection going. I must have 400 or more important intaglio prints dating back to 1500s. Will start to put some up for sale. You'll definitely want to frame and hang them. Splendid works of art, all. Also will be listing antique drawings. Be sure to watch.
