Known by varied names, posey holder, tussie-mussie, porte bouquet, this is a charming bit of early to mid-Victorian era (Napoleon III) with a finger ring holding it by chain so when a woman, girl, bride holds the bouquet holder in hand, it won't be easily dropped. Originally, it likely also had another chain with a 2" long pin which would be driven through the base of a small bouquet of flowers to hold if in the fluted cup. The fluted cup or 'tulip' of the porte bouquet is gilded metal, pressed in beautiful form, and is of 'ormolu'. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, one mention of likelihood of a missing additional chain which would have had an anchor pin attached which would be run through the bound stems of the bouquet to keep it from falling out. No loss at all to the beautifully carved mother of pearl handle, not even a tiny chip. The ormolu flute is complete, as well. It appears to me one tiny joint may have a back-support of metal adhesive or something similar which might mean a very tiny disconnect. It is firm as it should be as you see it. Display or use - such a beauty!
