Created in the Victorian era, which in France includes Napoleon III era, c. 1850-70s, this stunning sewing tools set is in one of the most popular styles of its time. We still find these in one state of completeness and appeal or another, and we buy all the nicest among them. This one's elegant outer wood box is just stunning, and opened, it reveals an equally thrilling .800/1000 pure silver set of scissors, needle case and a sterling silver thimble, plus a replacement stiletto, and makes a lovely set for any seamstress, embroidery or needlework artisan. The pattern on the scissors and needle case are exceptionally beautiful. I wish it had the matching stiletto, still!  A set like this would have had a matching bodkin, which is a ribbon threading needle. Alas, those rarely survive along with the sets. Each silver piece has the tiny French punch mark or 'poincon' of a profile boar's head, which is the guarantee mark used for .800/1000 pure silver. That is the preferred grade for small useful tools like these as it's slightly stronger for use than is sterling. Measurements are noted on the images.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type, the box is really ahead of most of these in quality and condition, both inside and out. The brass cartouche has not yet been monogrammed and can be done to your specifications. Hinge and clasp working perfectly and there is no warp. The interior silk velvet and satin are each well preserved and present beautifully, as well. The sewing tools within are original to this etui apart from a replacement stiletto, as noted above. Together, a beautiful and useful set.
