Painting in gouache on paper, after an original by Romantic Era (c.1700s) French artist, Fragonard. So often the Romantics deal with subjects of seductions, of losing virginity (as the icons in this one present - spilled milk or a broken jug). Beautifully painted and in excellent condition. The faces are a tiny 1/4" from chin to hairline. Beautiful palette, all gray-pastels, hints of color. The frame is superb, as well! Sphinx and classical motifs in cast bronze. The artist has signed on back, Vielar. Full measurements noted on photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, cover glass has protected the little painting perfectly well, and presents it beautifully. Hanging loop, it's a fun on to use in a doll house, or group with your own miniatures. It would likely have been a souvenir for Grand Tour museum attendees, who loved the Romantic Era paintings and wanted to take home a memento. This was an industry prior to 1850s and kept many artists' housed and fed, often ones who were working on their own large paintings.
