Charming pair, the original matching fox and hare, though the ears of the hare/rabbit have been lost to time and need to be re-carved by some clever person - or just enjoyed as they are. The set would have originally had glass flute or tulip/vase, also called 'epergne', but those are usually missing after a century. These are wonderful as candle holders and particularly when grouped on a table or mantel. The set are beautifully carved - a Master of anatomy evident in the fox and hare. These would date c.1880-1910, and likely were souvenirs of someone's visit to the stunningly beautiful Black Forest regions. Full measurements noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type. Mentioned above, the ears to the rabbit or hare have been broken over time. A long limb or frond tip missing (look closely) which is quite typical. All 4 legs are in fine shape on each one, and create a very sturdy stand. Photos from all sides for your inspection. We have sometimes turned a pair of these into small lamps - say, for bookshelf use. These would work well for that type of project, though they are petit.
