With a facing in 15k gold, this little brooch must have been such a treasure to some c.1800-20s mother - sweet portrait of her little boy (side-parted hair) in blue velvet child's gown holding a special French baby rattle of that era, mother of pearl handle on those were teethers, and top had small bells. Often in 18k gold, rare to find today. The charming little painting has a face of just 3/8" from chin to hairline. So sweet! Full measurements noted on photos. 

Very good to excellent condition for age and type, just the front frame face tests at 15k gold. I have not opened it to clean interior glass (not entirely sure how to) and the tiny painting shows imperfections of original work, yet is SO sweet and charming. Hinged c-clamp appears to have been restored (clasp).
