Wonderful antique French Edwardian era hand carved 17" wall or bracket shelf, Black Forest or Brittany chip carved style with scrolling foliage & floral accenting and large oval figural scene including seated gent playing a bagpipe! Likely originating from the north of France, judging by the style and dating from the late 1800s. This one also has either initials of the carver or just a marking from an early owner carved into the right side (right when looking at it), I can't quite make out the initials but the date "1909" is easily legible. Full of charm and visual appeal and the condition, age considered, is really as good as could be hoped for. Just in from France, don't miss it!
Very good condition. I see no notable breaks or repairs though there is one age/drying split in the figural rear panel at the very top at about the 11:30 position.
