A remarkable & rare antique French Napoleon III era gilt bronze ormolu casket, a trunk shaped jewelry with unique reticulated & two-toned gold & silvered bronze body, hand painted Old Paris or Sevres porcelain plaques, 5 on top and 6 more around the bottom half, all complete and undamaged. It has a superb claret red velvet lining inside, in excellent form. The plaque in the lid either Paris or Sevres porcelain, slightly convex with the 'Sevres' or 'Celeste' blue bordering and colorful hand painted floral decoration. The box itself is quite beautiful, a stunning array of reticulated scrolls in both a rich gilded finish. The original lock is intact but we do not have a working key at listing time. The box is c. 1850-80s, a most spectacular little treasure, recently in from France. Full measurements noted on our photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. No cracks or damage to the heavy brass box which has a hinged handle up top. The porcelain plaques, 11 in all, are in excellent condition, hand painted and raised gold enamel in fine shape. No missing lining on the inside is silk velvet, complete, luxurious! A really beautiful and ornate one, this!
