While this one is more like 185-200 years old, (c. 1825 - 1840) it has a feel of being just found in some silk velvet bag in a drawer of a 15 generation chateau's library. It is as close to pristine as any I've ever seen. Eyepiece tells us it was originally purchased at "Derepas #25 Palais Royal", a luxury retailer, optician and fine goods rather than being a manufactory of same. The finest market in Paris history is surely the Palais Royal, the former palace of Cardinal Richelieu. A center of society's upper eschaton, exquisite goods, entertainment, food, and social events created endless stories. I found this one in France. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. A pristine barrel of mother of pearl in a trim of cut steel 'beading', the bright yet unpolished brass of an alloy which appears in high gold coloration. The lenses are each very fine, no scratches and very clear, undamaged. The piece collapses for a vest pocket or a purse, then pulls smoothly to a 5-draw magnifier, for sport or opera. A real jewel.
