You can see this fabulous large area rug or broad hallway runner has been made entirely by hand, one tiny needlepoint stitch at a time, long panels which have been then sewn together and backed with a heavy linen canvas, almost like an oil cloth. I'm not entirely certain it wasn't made as a bed cover, as it would work beautifully for a twin bed. It has been stored for ages and I'd forgotten I owned it. Found it this week and feel certain someone will snap it up quickly. Wall hanging/tapestry; twin bed cover; area rug - would be great for in front of a fireplace - you'll have the perfect place. Very good to excellent condition for age and type. It's as if it was never used, but it's definitely mid to late 19th century, and entirely hand stitched, even to the back lining. The old patterns and dyes remain without fading so it has not been situated in direct sunlight. There are no holes, no moth or bug damage and no places of wear. I can see a bit of white stitching where the panels have been joined together, also hand sewn. It's clean and freshened outside in our California sunshine, and has no odor. Will be folded for shipment and is about 15 lbs in weight.
