Just a stunningly beautiful table snuff box, 3 1/8" in diameter and 1 1/4" in overall depth with the convex rise of the hand painted porcelain portrait miniature set on the lid. Shell interior lining typical of these, I think this one is one from the Napoleon III early revival of this decorative style, and not from mid-1700s when the Vernis Martin decorative style was in first favor, in Marie-Antoinette's time. The portrait is elegantly accomplished, oil paint on porcelain, as noted, and the overall presentation is top drawer in quality and condition. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, a couple of imperfections on the bottom, visible in the photos. No losses to the painting, but a very minuscule nip to the outer rim of the porcelain right about at the 6 p.m. position. The Vern's Martin decorative style is layered over an emerald foil, hand painted. The mounts and border trims are fully intact and no dents, bends, and are a bright brass alloy, not karat gold on this one.
