Rare to find one of these old carved desk sets in such fine condition, and rarer still to have both of the original inkwells and their carved lids. This is a 19th century carving, Animalier movement attention to the anatomical details of the pair of mated bird atop the lid to the stamps box. Sometimes those lids are hinged, so it's even more interesting this one remains so intact as the lid lifts off rather than opens hinging back. We've tried to show you closeup details to help you see how beautifully these are carved. Full measurements are noted on the photos.

Very good to excellent condition for age and type, a little roughness to the upper rim of on of the heavy pressed glass inkwells (see images). The one flaw I can fine, however, is on that openly furled wing to the backside of the bird to right of screen as you look at it. I've marked the repaired break with "x" for your review. It's had an old restoration, slightly misaligned so it is visible if you take a close look. Yes, we did find it in France.
