Fabulous antique French hallmarked silver & solid mother of pearl writer's wax seal or sceau with engraved royal crown mark and in the original presentation box, complete with a gold embossed crown on top! I just love these and when we can find them in their original boxes it's so much more fun. A treasured, well cared for piece for sure as evidenced by the condition of both the seal and box. The matrix bears the tiny French boar's head hallmark designating the metal as being at least .800 (80% pure) solid silver. The monogram on the seal appears to be "LH" though that on the lid of the box is "JM". Not sure why that would be but the ruffled silk or satin fitting in the base is the exact shape and the crowns match. Perhaps changed by a descendant of the original owner? A superb piece no matter.
Very good to excellent condition. Possibly a tiny nip or two to the pearl handle but, as you can see, both the seal and box are as near pristine as can be. See pictures for all measurements.
