Dating c.1830s, Louis-Philippe era, work box or jewelry box, French made in beautiful burled wood and adorned with the gem-like cabochons of kiln-fired enamels we know to have been crafted by the enamelist community of Bresse, France, referred to as Bressan. The jeweling of the cabochons is typical, and you'll recognize it from those fabulous kiln-fired enamel jewelry boxes like those shown in the final photo. Mother of pearl accents and brass create a beautiful overall decorative style still popular and sought after broadly. We've had a few through the years, ranging from large to this mid-sized casket. Measurements on photos, it is about 8" long, 6.5" wide. Lots of photos from all angles so you can evaluate it. Beautiful old burled wood.

Very good to excellent condition throughout, the enameled cabochons are complete and undamaged. I can see that a mother of pearl bead on lid top has been lost to time, and perhaps similar from top of each of the diamond-shaped mother of pearl plaques. The cartouche is monogrammed A S, beautifully crafted and preserved. One small corner of wood, left lip of top of box, has a little wood loss (marked with x on photo for your review).  There is a working lock on this one, but as with most antique boxes, the original key is not with it at listing time. We do maintain a cache of extra casket keys and if we can find one to work the lock, we'll add to the listing info and a bit to the box's price.  Interior is original, some fading, primarily on the inside lid.
