The old Napoleon III era champleve enamels always remind me of the cathedral stained glass windows. A particular method of kiln-fired enamel work, we see it on decorative objects like this chamber stick, candle holder. The heavy old thing isn't likely to tip over at bedside, and is meant to be carried from room to room. That veined marble inset is about 1/2" thick, and between it and the heavy casting, these are heavy and sturdy for use. Measurements are noted on the photos.
Very good condition, a small amount of the kiln-fired enamel work worn on the bend/arch of the front sweep, or perhaps as I look more closely, that area was not enameled and meant to be a cartouche of sorts. The marble is fully intact, unbroken and beautiful. The cup will hold a 1" diameter taper, the average size. Shown from all angles in our photos, it dates c.1850-70, during the Victorian parallel reign of Napoleon III.
