These are BIG bears! Even seated as they are they measure 8.5" tall. That means they're at least 10" bears if standing. There 19th century carved, each full of personality, glass eyes in place. They hold and form the legs of what I feel certain was a child's bench or stool - it is mechanically fitted so that a child, standing up, starts the music box and it plays through a little song. A sweet game piece for children? One could certainly use it at table, to hold a main serving dish or platter - this piece is 18.5" long. When you lift the platter, the music will play. Music box is working well, and the hinged carved lid raises as shown in the photos, reveals the trip wire for the music box, which winds on bottom. This is large. Would be so darling for little ones, grand-toddlers, and would delight them to sit and stand over and over again. Or, use it as a little bar, and each time the decanter is lifted, it will play the music. You'll find fun wis to use and show it off. Full measurements are noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. The music box is working perfectly well. I did't take the box apart to photograph the mechanism - pretty little song. Photos show all, including a little roughness at one ear and again a small spot on one nose - both of which will disappear with a touch of stain (I'll do that before sending, but we left it visible for the photos so you can find it). No breaks, no cracks in the old wood. Beautifully carved and preserved, and a very unique Swiss artisan-carved item.
