Grand Tour souvenir, Victorian era or slightly earlier, this is a brilliantly detailed Italian micro mosaic worked in a basin of goldstone (aventurine). Tiniest colored glass tesserae worked to create a landscape with river and bridge, beautiful shading to the trees and distant building. The large 41mm x 35mm brooch mount holding it so well is made in 12k gold. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, this is an early 1800s work, sand-size tesserae, all in place. There are no breaks or hairlines in the old aventurine stone surround. I can feel a couple of very tiny nicks along the beveled edge of the aventurine, very tiny, to be felt more than seen. Nicely set, the surface of the tesserae are flat but not ground/polished to super-flat, you can feel slight dimension to the tesserae. The 12k gold brooch mount is excellent throughout but it appears to have had a repair or replacement of the clamp (see images of backside). I imagine it was a c-clamp originally and replaced with what appears to be silver clamp now.
