Working through loads of needlework and old woven Aubusson, Flemish, Verdure, Gobelin tapestry fragments and salvages which I once thought I'd make up into those lush fringed and down-filled decorator pillows we used to sell. I've collected these for decades while out buying antiques - just the best and most appealing panels, but it's time to disburse and let you make them up for your home or business.
The very finest weaves are easy and from Master workshops, and this fragment is likely from a salvaged upholstery of a chair or section from sofa. Fine yarns in silk and wool worked to painstaking detail as an eagle battling a crow, a lush landscape scene. As you can see, someone has used small piece from other sections to fill in to the bottom (detail photos), and the 16" x 12" panel can be worked to a rectangle or oval focal piece for someone's lavishly fringed and larger pillow, down-filled and luxurious. I've shown with photo cropping how you might work this one in those formats, of course against a larger fabric of heavy silk or perhaps velvet.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. Superb fine work, tight yarns and as you see from the backside photos, no fading at all so also no sun damage. As noted, some fragment added to bottom to help make the panel usable. It is the same as when I bought it. Will be a stunning decorator pillow. No holes. No odors. Just as shown.
