Of interest for all who love fashion, she is the picture of the Louis-Philippe era c.1830s elegance, elaborately coiffed, broad neckline gown with leg of lamb our mutton chop sleeves. Attention to detail in the extra long chain and the way her watch is tucked under her belt. A silver fox stole across her arm. Her fashion is straight out of France, and one anticipates she was there on Grand Tour when her wealthy family had her portrait painted - or perhaps a wedding honeymoon trip. "Elisabeth Klara Pfaff, born Buschbeck" written on the backing, so you can always do some sleuthing to learn more. Measurements noted on photos. Painting in gouache on thin wafer, backed by card.

Very good to excellent condition, age and type considered. She is framed in a carved and gilded wood frame, under original cover glass. Having removed her from frame, I can see that the square wafer has been chipped at upper right and the backing has been painted to appear nicer in her frame aperture. Very nice composition in her 3/4 sidelong pose, and the palette is also quite unique. VERY appealing!
