Fantastic, large antique French Victorian or Napoleon III era hand painted portrait of Jesus Christ on a 4 3/4" convex porcelain plaque: thorn crown, eyes cast toward heaven and displayed in the original ornate reticulated 7 7/8" reticulated bronze frame! Exceptional! We think it's French but could be another European country. The back of the porcelain is signed though I can't quite make it out, there are also impressed markings that appear to be "12 E". A magnificent "miniature", whether it's the artistry or religious aspects that appeal to you, don't miss it.
Very good condition. The one real thing to mention is that the frame would originally have had reticulated 'doors' that would close over the portrait (remnants of hinge fittings are slightly visible at the nine and three o'clock positions). No loss to the painted facade of the porcelain, what looks like one tiny edge chip visible on the back at about the 6:30 position. See images for all measurements.
