Beautiful antique 19th c. French hand painted portrait miniature style painting after the 1761 Jean-Baptiste Greuze painting entitled "The Village Bride" and set in a wreath, bow & ribbon topped gilt bronze frame! This painting, signed by the artist at about the four o'clock area, only shows the two sisters but the original painting tells more of the story, with mother & father outside of what you see here. Beautifully done, the colors and detail draw the eye for sure. We don't believe the painting is original to the frame, there is a tiny space visible between the edge of the miniature and inner frame edge (though shrinkage could cause that). The painting is signed but I can't quite make it out. Stunning all the way around!
Very good condition. I did remove the miniature for scanning and there is a small edge chip to the wafer at around the two o'clock area. Some faint white spots visible and I did not try to wipe at them (if you do, definitely do NOT use water as it will remove the gaoche or watercolor for sure). The frame is in great shape, thick & heavy. See images for all measurements.
