Beautiful antique French miniature painting, a hand painted rendition of Francois Boucher's 1768 "L'obeissance recompense" or "Obedience Rewarded" displayed in a stunning gilt bronze & mahogany wood mat 6 3/4" Louis XVI style frame! Fantastic! The frame a treasure all alone, seashiell & pierced or reticulated flowers & vines finial, laural garland draped at each side of the top and an ornage pattern around the entirety. The painting 'apres'/after Francois Boucher's 1768 original and depicts a man sitting, leaning against a cherub or putti topped fountain and holding a treat in his left hand, woman with basket and small, fluffy white dog in a begging position....hence the name of the painting. Beautiful colors, wonderful subject and fine detail, the painting and frame together truly a visual experience!
Very good to excellent condition. The one thing I'll note is that the thin mahogany 'parquet' style mat is not oriignal but is just on top of the original, which was a jacquard style silk but is very age darkened/soiled (similar to backing). No damage or loss to the painting, protected under the original drop-beveled glass. All back tabs intact, as is the easel stand and hang ring. See images for all measurements.
