We have no artist's signature, but he certainly seems to be a Master in French Revolutionary era. Fitting to list him on 14 July, as France celebrates their National Day. Perhaps you history buffs will recognize this obviously great gentleman as Honoré Gabriel Riqueti, Compte de Mirabeau (1749-1791). Considered Father of the Revolution, he was a central and pivotal leader and public hero in the French Revolution. You'll want to read more of his story. The painting must be considered 'rare'. A stunningly fine hand painted portrait, this! That face is just 1 1/4" from his chin to his hairline - look at the incredibly fine work of this un-signed artist. This miniature would date late c.1780s, give or take a few years, as he died in 1791. Housed in his original wood frame, but under flat cover glass which is likely a replacement. From this ear, most would have slightly convex cover glass.

Very good to excellent condition, not a bit of loss or damage to the original work of art. And such a fine one! A little light evidence of age to the old frame, not much. I do think the cover glass is a replacement simply because my experience is that this era, they are all slightly convex, polished and this is flat. Measurements are noted on our photos. He is fabulous, is he not!
