More from my collections, this elegantly dressed c.1825-30s French gentleman with his curly hair and his big beautiful eyes and confident expression seems to exude charisma. One wonders who he was and what his life brought to him - what he brought to his life. There is no signature, no identification of who he is. He's someone of stature in his time, most evidently shown in this fine portrait. Measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition as you can see. He remains in the original wooden frame which does show some age. The painting/wafer is really quite superb on this one. It almost appears to me to be oil painting on wafer rather than gouache. No warp, no damage. A brilliant little painting!
