Delightful antique French Palais Royal gilt ormolu & mother of pearl goat pulled cart or carriage, an egg shaped thimble holder with thimble! Sweet little c.1840-60 Palais Royal souvenir mother of pearl shell 'egg' casket, carriage pulled by a charming little goat figure is a thimble box. These miniature carriages are thrilling to find in such fine condition (unbroken). The fabric inside looks like a newer ‘restoration’ and the thimble may not be original but what a lovely little decorative piece. The old Palais Royal, Paris, is there still, still a center of commerce, theater, dining, but in its origin it was the Palace of Cardinal Richelieu, and afterward because THE center for Royals and elites to shop, congregate socially. The items from the boutiques of the old Palais Royal remain museum pieces, highly sought after. Perfect for the Palais Royal ‘egg’ or sewing enthusiasts.
Very good condition. No damage to the mother of pearl half shells, possibly a bend or two to the ormolu or brass framework. As noted, the fabric inside looks a bit newer so it’s been relined. See pictures for all measurements.
