So unique! Dogs are so rare! A spaniel wading in a pond, hunting water fowl, the dog is carved with such care and anatomical perfection, you half expect a duck or two to fly up from the marshes. The carving on this one is unique all through, and with an aesthetic of Victorian to Edwardian era. Hinged lift top tucks back and sides hinge open to sides and reveal a 4-decanter liqueur cabinet you will love to put to use. The 4 square decanters are original and all have heavy beautiful stoppers, one not quite a match but a very reasonable replacement for one lost to the ages. The cordial stemware is comprised from 2 sets, my thinking is the sturdier ones with square bottoms are the originals. All total, there are 14 stems, with holes or fittings to hold 16, so into the back beyond the hinges 2 are in place and 2 are missing there. Still, amazing in its size to hold this expanded set of glassware. Again, 2 patterns, so not all original to the tantalus. Full measurements noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. No chips to the carving - the dog is just a stunning anatomical study, no damage to him. Unique, with him standing in water, or marsh, a hunting spaniel. The tantalus is an old one! Photos show it from all sides. No breaks to the carving, the beautiful base (on bun feet) nor to the interior wooden fittings which support the glassware and serve. One stopper is a replacement, as noted above, but the set works well together. A little project - finding more matching cordials to fill it out with the square based ones - might require you take a couple weeks in Paris. I'd go, but pandemic is hindering my in person shopping a bit. You're younger! Go! You'll have such fun finishing this one out as it deserves to be! Oh, no key at listing time.
