Rare finest quality banking folio, 19th century buttery soft leather in a moss green, this carries important cache, made in France by a top maker, and the clasp is a locking London made bank deposit with notations of the security of CHUBB! You even see the bank account security number there to the bottom. CHUBB LONDON, Makers to Her Majesty. The nicely preserved wallet or bank folio would have held the old paper bank notes, receipts of the day, and is 8" long 5.5" tall to the fold or top of baffles, with an overlap flap and sectioned interior with elegantly baffled expansion to a full 4+" in depth at the full, or flat to 1 1/4" when empty. A movie prop you'd see on Belle Epoch shows, certainly, and earlier. We do not have a key to fit it at listing time.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, this is thin and supple finest quality leather, a moss green in color, which is beautifully preserved. I will point out what might be some water damage ripples to the lower front - one imagines a banker to the Queen walking fast in a heavy London rain. Folds nicely preserved and no holes in the leather. No key at listing. An impressively made top of the line bag, indeed!
