Let's address it right off: yes, there is a flashing chip on the interior of the cover glass on this brooch mount. If it were simple to do so, one could replace it, but of course no one makes oval convex cover glass for portrait miniatures anymore, so it remains as it is to protect the charming "Redcoat" portrait within. The portrait would be, in my opinion, 18th century and British. The brooch frame would be, in my opinion, a Victorian jewelry piece. Seems a marriage to me, but I liked both. Disbursing my collections, and he's so appealing. That face is 1/2", chin to hairline. No signature.

Good to very good condition for age and type. As noted, I think the 10k brooch frame, mount is maybe 100 years younger than the gentleman it houses. The value is more in the painting, to my eye. Flash chip on interior of the convex cover glass, catches light at some angles and not much at other angles but it is there. Also, backing is not metal but is card. Found in France.
