Fabulous hand carved panels from the dismantling of some old library or chateau, this is a matching pair, 16" x 6.75" of figural panels, they're in deep bas relief making a depth of 1 1/2" rather than the 1/2" depth of the board. Elaborate decorative carvings, each with birds and acanthus, etc., and male characters, mythological pair, Oriental looking spirits or devils. They're in fine order, ready to be hung as art, framed, or built into your own cabinetry project. Fabulous for a bookcase, as well, in a rather intimate size.
Very good to excellent condition, no chips. I found them in France, and paper backing shows a bit of handwriting in French. Nice patina on the old wood, I'm uncertain of origin. Purchased these with several other panels, some with a distinctive Oriental feel to the figures, and some more Neoclassical. I'm unsure if they all came from the same dismantling. Selling this pair together, so look for the others (sold separately) if you're wanting more. No chips, not cracks. Heavy old forest growth wood.
