A distinguished gentleman, perhaps one who helped the USA in our Revolutionary War alongside Lafayette. No identification, but it is a tiny gem dressed and coifed for that timeframe. Very small, Frame is only 1 1/2" x 1 1/4" oval. The old convex cover glass remains, and the painting is superb. Consider, that face is less than 1/2" in height, and yet so much detail.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. All original frame, cover glass, no damage to note. The painting is in gouache on thin wafer. No warp, no chips nor hairlines. The back side of the gem frame is brass but it is fronted by a gold face which tested for me with 14k but not at 18k (typical French) so it is somewhere between those two. Measurements noted on the photos. Superb little one from my own collection.
