This appealing miniature portrait, painting, is so interesting! We have a gentleman who is dressed well for his era, a long-lapel vest of either embroidery, or perhaps it's Fortuny silk velvet. Up-collar and cravat, blue coat left open. And a large cabochon of either amber, red coral or more likely carnelian set in gold. He looks away from the artist and viewer, has the long mutton chop sideburns. He seems for several reasons to be English, though I'd found this wonderful painting in France. What do you think? A shy English Grand Tour traveler, late 1700s to earliest 1800s? We know such sideburns are historically linked as far back at a full century before that. But, in the end, it's the vest and side-glance that wins the heart.

Very good to excellent condition for ate and type. Compete with original slightly convex cover glass and original frame. No loss, no chips, no hairlines, and no warp. Ready to hang. Measurements are noted on our photos.
