I have owned this for literally decades - way back when all items over 100 years were exempted from CITES. It's been a very long time ago (2011) that I had it listed. In any case, rules changed afterward and so we'd just crated my collections until we figured out how to sell within newer rulings. It's an interesting piece we found in the USA, way back then described as Dieppe carved frame, a thick old beveled mirror which has served as a superb stand for perfume bottles while I've owned it. It pushes light up through crystal, or displays a sculpture or carving nicely by reflecting light upwards, too. Frame is ivory, a center-cut slice of a fairly large tusk, nicely carved. About 200 years old now, but subject to restrictions noted below. Full measurements noted on the photos.

Very good condition for age and type, 3 age-shrinkage hairlines, no breaks. You can see there is a drilled hole which would have had a hanging hardware/ring, I'm sure. Since I used it laid flat, I didn't ever try to replace the hardware. I rather suspect it was a frame for a portrait miniature at the beginning, and late 1700s to earliest 1800s. However, the oval deep beveled mirror (which is old and nicely silvered, still) could be stripped and made clear for use as a frame.  . . . Time to disburse my own collections.

IMPORTANT NOTE regarding antique tortoise shell or ivory: We are great supporters of protection for endangered species in our modern world. We never buy or sell anything 100 years or newer; we donate to anti-poaching organizations; we don't hunt; we conserve in ways that impact global warming (we're totally solar at home), knowing those measures also protect the animals in the wild today. We also recognize the vast cultural history we preserve with our care and reverence for these antique objects, and agree with CITES that objects over 100 years of age have nothing whatsoever to do with species depletion in our current world.

Our offering exceeds the age limitation of "more than 100 years of age", and is well within the exemption for CITES regulation. If imported, met the CITES regulation. This item will be handled and shipped from our Utah business, and is not available for shipment internationally, nor within the USA to California, NY, Nevada, Hawaii, New Jersey, Oregon, Washington if it contains ivory, sorry. Please see our small print for more details.
