"Biggs & Sons Carvers & Framers" the Bond Street, London framer speaks to the quality. She counts as a portrait miniature, though somewhat at variance with the genre since she is an English girl whose portrait is done in oil on board. Still in her original 19th century frame, carved wood with gesso and gold finish. Her billowing white gown and blue shawl define the composition and pull the eye to both the book upon which she casually leans, as if her artist just interrupted her reading. Mid-late Victorian, very nicely preserved. No indication of ID, and I see no visible signature. I have not opened this from back to see what other information might be found within. Charming!
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, both painting and frame. London framer's stamp tells us it was a fine one - Bond Street address. Full measurements noted on the photos, but are: Frame is 11 3/8” x 9 3/8” and 1 5/8” deep. The aperture is 6 5/8” x 4 5/8”
