Found in France, I think this is an English gentleman, possibly collection in France, or painted in France during his Grand Tour or business trips, it is not a French-framed item. He has much more the look of an early Victorian gentleman by his dress, and the silver locket frame, which also lacks marks of either France or UK, seems more a jewelry item than wall frame. That aside, a charming little painting, showing a fine chair, elegant vest and his pocket watch chain. Full measurements are noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition throughout, the silver frame is stamped .800. Cover glass is undamaged, the painting is, likewise, undamaged. No signature visible. I have not ever opened this one, photo are through the cover glass. Sometimes when I do open them, a signature is along the very outer border, hidden when in frame. Or perhaps an identification to be found. This has that very old very thin glass and I feared breaking it if I tried to pry it open. Up to you.
