BIG artist box, filled with original aquarelle (watercolor) bricks. A full 28 of them, not much evidence they've been used, you can still see the maker's press embossment on all of them. A couple have cracked, but they're complete. Crayons seem to have been the young artist's favorites and those have been used, some broken. A drawing charcoals pack, still full, and rolled paper stumps to smooth and shade. Tacks and one small box I haven't even opened. Likely a gum eraser. There were once 5 metal pots for mixing and there is a 3-pot mixer within and 3 of the original metal pots up top with 1 added ceramic one. SO tough to find these old watercolor bricks and particularly extra large like these. They're double the usual size. Box is 13" x 8" and 2" deep.
Very good to excellent for age and type. This set is likely c.1890-1920s. An oversize and opulent young artist's kit. The 28 bricks are SO rare to find. Brand on crayons and aquarelle is visible on all: Bourgeois Aine, Paris. With embossed artist's palette on backsides. Enlarged for your view. Each brick is 1 1/2" x 1", or roughly double the usual. Any artist's dream! Lots of photos show all. Box is light stain, nice condition without warp or damage. We search all the time for these. Fine maybe 3 a year, tops. Don't miss this one!
