Dating c.1800-1818, this is an exceptional original miniature portrait of a young gentleman, oil on stretched canvas, and in a fine old French Empire frame of wood with gesso appliqué still fully intact. Yes, there's age to it, as it is over 200 years old. I've shown it from all angles so you can see the authenticity and the age and flaws. The kind of flaws that make it all the more wonderful. Good to very good for age and type, showing age appropriate, but an elegant small painting as it is. There is a small push to the painting at about the 11 o'clock position behind the gentleman's head. Otherwise, no damage and it remains well-stretched on the old wooden stretcher frame (see back - it has some very old wood worm holes). Frame has all of the appliqué, which is relatively rare in these old ones. It does show its age, however. Look it over. Some chips, surface wear. Shows well.
