A charming 19th century Grand Tour souvenir of someone's visit to France, this portrait miniature is a rendition of Marie-Antoinette, painted as a souvenir market pendant, bale at top for chain. Petit, lovely, the frame is dore metal or gold plated, high gold finish and has a mat of kiln-fired enamel with raised jewel dots, likely the work of the artisans of Bresse, France. Measurements are noted on the photos.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type, likely mid-1800s, Victorian era (Napoleon III era in France). No flaws to note. Looks like karat gold but I did not test. I am quite sure it is gold plating or a high gold finish alloy, instead. I did not try to remove the little painting, so photos are through the slightly convex old cover glass, a little glare. Very nicely done, but no signature.
