An intimate portrait of a handsome young man in suit and tie, French oil painting in the Impressionist style. It is framed in an oak frame that measures 12 1/4" x 10", so intimate size, great for bookshelf display or in with a wall group of various sizes. The palette is warm, and I wish our artist had signed his or her work. I think it dates between c.1880-1915, and it is an oil painting on board (view from back).
Very good to excellent for age and type, since it is painted on wood, there has been no damage to the painting, itself. No canvas to stretch or repair holes or cuts, like so many. No missing paint, and the frame is original to it, definitely also has appropriate age and aesthetic for c.1880-1915. When I look at him, I wonder if he is a son, or a young love about to head off to WWI, or if he is earlier.
