In my collections for decades, this perfectly preserved little treasure was likely initially a 18th century rosary box, or perhaps a lady's snuff box from way back. A little gem, it is 2.25" in diameter. You can see what a splendid kiln-fired enamel (on metal plaque) tops it, and what incredibly fine condition it's in. Eagle in the form up top, and a couple either dating or in mourning or both. A cross or two look like gravestones. I've never quite figured out the iconography. Perhaps you will. The carved ivory box is excellent, no warp, chip, breaks or cracks, and the 2 halves fit smoothly. Superb!
Very good to excellent condition throughout, as visible in our very enlarged photos. Measurements noted on photos. The kiln-fired enamel work is arduous and difficult, and takes a lifetime to master. I've written about it many times as I list other items. I've tried it, myself. One of the most difficult to master arts there is.
