Signed by artist: S. Sévénonis (perhaps - it's not easy to read), and dated 1911. Oil painting on stretched linen canvas and in original frame. You know these old still life paintings are like a prayer of thanksgiving for the feast of an evening meal. In their time, it wasn't always that a meal could be had. The bounty of the day, captured thus, was almost a certainty in a French home. Kitchen or keeping room, dining room, this one is charming in it's Impressionist influence and simplicity. I love that the old silver knife has a "Paris" blade. And the fruit and bowl - fabulous. So often it's a simple rabbit or fish or even a small bird or two. Now and then a duck. But this fine feast makes itself exotic with the lobster, the Chianti, and that old silver Paris knife.

Very good to excellent for age and type. Dating 1911, by the artist, it's fared better than most. The frame is sort of a lemon-gilt shine old one, and you can see from back images, it is wood. Likewise the old stretcher frame and the appearance of 2 old canvas repairs which are viewable from front more as 2 very small dents near the Chianti bottle. Nicely stretched, still, it is still very pleasing. Outer frame is 28" x 24" and frame is about 1.25" deep.
