The clothing is so French, so c.1810-30, and yet the framing is a bit unusual and perhaps 30-40 years later. I believe this wonderful little portrait has been framed much later than it was painted. That gold-embossed leather frame is more typical of c.1850s Italian work, something one might have as a Victorian Grand Tour souvenir. So I think a marriage of periods evident in this one. Very appealing, however, and a signed painting. I did not take the frame's backing off to see the rest of the signature (to right, begins with H, at about the 4 o'clock position on the oval wafer), nor to see if more information might be housed within the frame. A superb display piece with that consideration of a re-framing.  Measurements are noted on the photos.

Very good condition for age and type. The painting, portrait, is quite exceptionally appealing for those heavy bushy eyebrows, the mutton chop sideburns (quite c.1830). Large lapel and vest/cravat/shirt in white feels earlier - perhaps c.1810. Frame, a bit later and a marriage.
