My experience says this is an Asian carving, c.1850s, framed well and against a plush silk brocade fabric. It's appeal will range from Orientalist to naturalist, however, and in fact it's quite beautiful as an accent in a home where Black Forest game carvings are appreciated, too. Photos tell all. It's definitely Victorian to Edwardian, and a few very old woodworm holes show on reverse of the old frame. The brown-red frame really elevates the crimson cut velvet and the brown of the old wood. Great decorator piece! I purchased it in France years ago, but I'm certain it was someone Grand Tour souvenir only framed in France, Napoleon III era (c.1850-70s).

Very good to excellent for age and type, the carving is beautifully preserved, as you can see. And elegantly crafted, it just "works" in this presentation, don't you agree? Large at 20 1/2" x 17 1/4" and 1" deep, I'm hoping you've got the perfect spot for it. Begs a room with red French toile, don't you agree?
